Three Times Lucky by Sheila Turnage

When sixth-grader Mo was a baby, she was tragically separated from her mother during a hurricane and came to live with her rescuer from the flood waters, "the Colonel," and his girlfriend, Miss Lana. Together the makeshift family run a popular diner frequented by the eccentric residents of the tiny Southern town of Tupelo Landing, North Carolina.

When one of their neighbors is murdered under mysterious circumstances, bringing the police to town to investigate, Mo and her best friend Dale form the Desperado Detective Agency to solve the crime. As they follow the trail of clues, the junior sleuths begin to realize that not everyone in their quaint little town is who they seem to be. Along the way, perhaps Mo will also solve the mystery of her missing mother...

Why I Picked it Up: We read this in our Roselle Middle School Book Discussion Group, Chat Pack.

Why I Finished It: The book is filled with fun characters and truly hilarious dialogue.

I’d Give This Book to: This book would be a good read for anyone who likes mysteries with kid detectives.
