One for the Murphys by Lynda Mullaly Hunt

Reviewed By: A.T.
One for the Murphys is a tear jerker tale about love, loss, and the bonds of friendship. This story takes place in Connecticut, even though the main character Carley Connors comes from Las Vegas. It is in Connecticut that Carley is placed into foster care for the first time and meets the Murphys. The Murphys are a tight knit, fun loving family that has a few secrets of their own, but are letting Carley into their home as a first time foster family. Basketball, brothers, musicals and quirky teachers, this book has it all! Want to find out what happens to Carley and the people she meets along the way? Then pick up the book today to find out!
Why I Picked it Up: This was a book club pick from one of my book clubs, so rather than me choosing the book, the book chose me!
Why I Finished It: Two reasons. First, I always have to finish a book once I start it, so that was a given. Second, I really felt for Carley and I had to find out if she stayed with the Murphys or not.
I’d Give this Book To: I would recommend this book to any middle school student, boy or girl, who likes realistic fiction and stories with strong main characters.

**Librarian Side Note** Be warned! You may get a bit upset while reading this book, so make sure to have tissue nearby when you read the book. I'm not saying everyone will cry, but it's a bit emotional, and I think many people feel conflicted when they finish the story. Want to know what I mean by that??? Read the book!
