This book is about Celaena Sardothien, a girl who is an assassin fighting for her life. Celaena is a very well-known assassin who can defeat just about anyone. She is captured and taken to a death camp where most people there are supposed to die. She didn’t. Instead the Crown Prince of Adarlan takes her for his Champion. There is a competition to see who should be the king’s champion and Dorian (the crown prince) believes she can win. Dorian also wants the assassin because he wants to go against his father’s orders of taking a thief or soldier. Celaena is then brought the castle by Chaol (the captain of the guard). Celaena is then told to fight against 23 other champions. Then to make things worse there is an evil in the castle she must find and defeat while she is slowly falling in love with a certain someone. The certain someone is also falling in love with her. Celaena must fight for her life and her freedom in the Fantasy novel.
Why I Picked it Up: I picked it up because I was being badgered by two of my friends to read it. I did and was very happy that I did.
Why I Finished It: I instantly fell in love with Celaena and wanted to know more about her. But my favorite character is Chaol and I had to know what happened to him. I love this book and I am reading the second one because it was so good.
I’d Give this Book To: I would recommend this to fantasy lovers and people who love a little romance. This book is for middle school and up and is for all ages.
**Librarian Side Note** Love, love, LOVE this series! Just an FYI though, only the first 3 books and the prequel are out, so if you were hoping this was a trilogy, think again! But on the bright side, you have at least one more book about Celaena to look forward to next year! And you know me, audio book gal all the way, so if you get a chance, I highly recommend the audio version of this book too!
