Hourglass by Myra McEntire
Reviewed By: A.T.
Meet Emerson Cole, a teen who has had some tough obstacles thrown at her during her 17 years on this planet. Her parents were killed in a terrible bus accident, she spent the last several years in and out of institutions and boarding schools, and now her amazing brother and his wife have graciously opened their home to her. While this all may seem pretty ordinary, it must be because I forgot to mention Emerson can see people from the past! They appear before her like ghosts, and if she touches them the pop out of existence. While she has seen these "ghosts" for the past several years of her life, she is just now getting the hang of determining if who she is talking to and looking at is real or from the past. And then she meets Michael. Someone who can see what she sees, and claims that he, or rather his employer the Hourglass, can help her control her abilities. Is the Hourglass a place that can actually help Emerson not feel crazy? And what is that strange electrical feeling she gets when she touches Michael? Is Emerson alone in her abilities, or are there more of them like her out there? Read the book to find out!
Why I Picked it Up: "Time Travel done right!" "Doctor Who in a YA package!" After seeing blurbs like that about a book, I have to pick it up!
Why I Finished It: Time travel is the best! Plus, you get wrapped up in Michael and Emerson's story, and the twist at the end was excellent!
I’d Give this Book To: Fans of sci-fi books, time travel, and yes, fans of Doctor Who!
**Librarian Side Note** Series Alert! We currently own the first two books in this trilogy, and the third is on it's way! Allons-y!
