TimeRiders by Alex Scarrow

Three teens are pulled from the edge of death: Liam, seconds away from going down on the Titannic; Maddy, about to die in a terrorist explosion; and Sal, caught in a blazing fire. They awake in a future time where people have the ability to travel in time and change history. Their mission (choose it or go back to your moment of death!) is to make sure that history - and the world that results, stays on the right path.
They are based in New York City in 2001, the day before 9/11. One morning, soon after they arrive, they look outside, expecting to see the normal bustling, busy city, but instead, see ruined buildings crumbling in decay, rusted cars with decomposed bones in the driver's seats - it looks like the world has ended in Manhattan in 2001. Can Liam, Maddy and Sal find out who has changed history and when? Can they go back in time and stop whoever has done this before it is too late?
Why I Picked it Up: This is the first book in the TimeRiders series. I previewed the 3rd book in the series (TimeRiders: The Doomsday Code) before it was published. That book was so good that I had to read the first one and see how it all started.
Why I Finished It: It is an edge-of-your-seat adventure story that's impossible to put down! There are greedy power-seekers in the past, cannibalistic creatures in the future and a present that is never secure... and time-travel! What's not to like?.
I’d Give this Book To: This is not a "girly-book" or a "boys-only-book." I would recommend it to anyone who loves adventure stories with a bit of time-travel thrown in.
